Our Work in 2019
In 2019, many years of organizing bore fruit. We won a series of landmark victories that are changing the policy landscape of New York. Our state is now on track to become a more just and welcoming place, with a dramatic expansion of tenant protections, more opportunities for immigrants and youth, and more protections for the environment.
With allies, we led national impact litigation that staved off anti-immigrant attacks and kept DACA live. Our DACA case, McAleenan v. Vidal, is now before the Supreme Court. Another case, Make the Road New York v. McAleenan, has, at least temporarily, stopped an expansion of “expedited removal,” which could have resulted in thousands of immigrants being ripped from their communities and rapidly deported without access to a judge.
Meanwhile, in Corona, Queens, our multi-story community center is rising from the ground. This project is a reflection of our persistence and permanence. In 2020, an incredibly critical year for the US, we will continue our fight for dignity and justice in New York and across the country. We are here to stay.
