Three community organizations that advocate for low-income people and immigrants are joining forces to launch a new Brentwood office tomorrow by offering free counseling and legal assistance.

The office will house Make the Road New York, which focuses on immigration advocacy; New York Communities for Change, which works on affordable housing and foreclosure prevention; and the Long Island Civic Engagement Table, an umbrella group for advocacy efforts in minority communities.

Following their noon grand opening and until 3 p.m., volunteers will assist homeowners fighting foreclosure and young undocumented immigrants preparing to apply for “deferred action” to allow them to stay and work in the United States.

The center, at 1090 Suffolk Ave., also will be used as a base for voter registration drives, said Daniel Altschuler, coordinator of the Long Island Civic Engagement Table [also an organizer at Make the Road New York]. “This will be the space where our organizations will come together,” he said, “to work on civic engagement issues and host community meetings.”
