Today is an important day for immigrant youth like me.
Nine years ago, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was established, transforming my life and the lives of 700,000 immigrant youth across the country. With DACA, we have been able to go to school, establish careers, purchase homes and travel abroad to visit family we hadn’t seen in decades.
Members of our families and communities, many of whom risked their lives as essential workers through the crisis of the past year, still don’t have those basic opportunities. Those of us with DACA are still waiting on a pathway to citizenship, and to date, even with a new administration, no permanent protection has been guaranteed.
So today, on the 9th anniversary of DACA, we have two simple requests:
- Join us tonight at 6 PM on Facebook LIVE for a virtual celebration to hear from impacted immigrant youth on the importance of DACA. Tune-in here.
- Contact Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to demand he fights to support a pathway to citizenship for essential workers in The American Jobs Plan & American Families Plan, and all the 11 million undocumented people in this country, including DACA recipients and TPS holders.
Thanks for taking action in this fight!
¡Sà se puede!
