Over the weekend, our Trans Immigrant Project (TrIP) members proudly joined the Queens Pride Parade in Jackson Heights after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Pride is a day of celebration, and an opportunity to remember the legacy of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who organized and rioted against police violence. During Queens Pride this year, we continued centering trans and sex worker communities fighting for an end to police violence and hate violence against sex workers. We honored the lives of community members lost to transphobia and anti-sex work stigma, while also calling for action from our neighbors and legislators. At least 14 trans people have been killed in 2022. Our TrIP members came together to say loud and clear: Not one more!

Our members are fighting for trans liberation and safety across New York by pushing for passage of the Stop Violence in the Sex Trades Act (SVSTA). People who trade sex or who identify as sex workers, whether as a form of survival or as a choice, have historically been harassed and criminalized by the police, particularly Black & undocumented trans women. This law would help stop the persistent violence against trans sex workers.
