Members of our team, together with workers and tenants representing organizations across the state, just disrupted Governor Hochul’s speech at the state Democratic Convention.

A dozen community members entered the convention hall shouting, “no money in the bank, no roof over our head!” and “Pass Good Cause! Pass Excluded No More!” Watch the video above and follow our Twitter coverage.

Hochul has chosen to prioritize the needs of wealthy New Yorkers over those of working families. So far, she has failed to include any additional funding for the Excluded Workers Fund in her state budget and has not signaled a position on either Good Cause or Excluded No More, two critical pieces of legislation that would hep keep tenants in their homes, and bring a permanent solution to bring relief for excluded workers.

Together with partners from Housing Justice for All and the Fund Excluded Workers Coalition, we are calling on the Governor to support and pass the Good Cause Eviction legislation and provide additional support for excluded workers, including a permanent alternative to unemployment insurance for workers that are left out.

Evictions have already resumed across our state and hundreds of thousands of workers will continue to be excluded from our state’s unemployment insurance system if they lose work.

Governor Hochul can’t leave workers and tenants behind. We’ll continue to uplift our demands until our communities have real solutions.

¡Sí se puede!
