For years, students, teachers and parents like myself have been organizing for more investment in our schools. I first became involved in this fight because my own daughter was falling behind and needed support.
Currently, Black and brown youth attend underfunded schools with curricula that do not reflect their own identities. I am proud that our organizing led New York state to allocate $4 billion to public schools in the next three years and invest $500 million in culturally responsive education. This investment will result in significant, tangible improvement in the quality and equity of New York’s schools.
I left all my fears behind to speak publicly on this issue, and Make the Road supported me to become a leader in this campaign. Will you make a year end gift to support this organizing work and the leadership development that makes it possible?
We will continue to push for further investments in our schools and believe we can continue to win big. Please support our continued efforts with a year-end gift.
