My name is Reyna and I am a member of Make the Road NY.
Over 150,000 low income New Yorkers are currently not eligible for health insurance due to their immigration status and much less have access to affordable, quality healthcare. Since the pandemic, house cleaners like myself have endured grueling working conditions which have had negative impacts on our health. Hospitals have long wait lists, private clinics are expensive and I’ve had to borrow money to pay for medication. I’ve been uninsured since 1997, but now it has been especially difficult taking care of myself without access to health insurance.
Support our fight today. Donate to our Coverage4All campaign to ensure immigrant New Yorkers have access to essential medical care.
Early last year, I found a lump in my breast and the hospital told me they could not remove the lump because I do not have health insurance. I continue to suffer from pain and as a single mother, I am scared for my two children.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the ongoing disparity in access to healthcare services among our most vulnerable communities. Winning Coverage4All will provide health insurance coverage to all immigrant New Yorkers and bring us one step closer towards true health equity. We also need to pass the New York Health Act as a comprehensive solution to make healthcare more affordable to all.
We are headed in the right direction. In the past few weeks the New York State Assembly Health Committee and the New York State Senate Health Committee passed the Coverage4All legislation. We urge Governor Hochul and Albany leaders to include Coverage4 All in this year’s state budget.
We must ensure all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status, are able to have access to health care. Donate today to fuel our fight!
We appreciate your support.
In Solidarity,
