I became involved with the Trans Immigrant Project at Make the Road New York because as a trans woman, I felt supported there. For decades we were profiled, harassed and arrested and after years of organizing, in early 2021 we repealed the Walking While Trans ban.
I now feel more freedom to walk in the streets without fear of police harassment, and have more hope for the future for all trans women. We’ve fought hard to get here and know there is more work ahead.
Will you make a year-end donation to support our organizing?
Make the Road New York offers legal services, health access, youth programs and an array of other services to support TGNCIQ and all New Yorkers. Consider making a donation today or sustaining your support into the new year by becoming a monthly recurring donor!
We will continue to fight for an end to violence against transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex and queer (TGNCIQ) people of color who disproportionately face discrimination and hate violence.
Making the streets safer for Black and brown trans women is a continuous fight. Support TGNCIQ leaders in our fight for dignity and safety. Donate today.
Thank you for your support.
