We hope you and the students in your life are having an easy and safe return to school!

For the past few weeks across our offices in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Westchester and Long Island we’ve been helping families and students prepare to return to school. As the new school year begins, immigrant, Black, and brown communities continue to suffer from COVID’s impact and families struggle to buy their children’s school supplies.

At our back to school events, we helped bring a little bit of relief during these difficult times:

  • We distributed over 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to students!
  • Vaccination vans were on site to ensure students 12+ and their family members would have access to the vaccine before returning to in person learning.
  • We distributed masks and other PPE.
  • We helped families apply for IDNYC so that they can safely navigate city services and apply for the Excluded Workers Fund.

We are grateful to the offices of Councilmember Antonio Reynoso, State Senator Jessica Ramos, Assemblywoman Jessica González-Rojas, Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz, the Health Education Project, as well as community members who donated materials that helped make this annual event possible.

Our members, both parents and students, will continue to organize for a safe return to school, culturally responsive education and supportive schools where students are not over policed. Support this work with a donation today.
