My name is Mario Chavez and I am a leader in the trans, gender non-confirming and queer organizing committee of Make the Road NY. I’m from Guerrero Mexico and I’ve lived in New York for 22 years.
I immigrated to the United States fleeing homophobia, transphobia and discrimination. I arrived in the United States hoping for a better life but I have faced many barriers along the way.
Take action for immigrants like Mario and donate to fuel our citizenship for all fight.
During the pandemic I risked my life as an essential worker and became sick with COVID. While I was in the hospital and as I recovered I fell into debt. Despite the risks that I took, I was not provided with any government support because of my immigration status.
As essential workers and members of the LGBTQ community we have been neglected by the government. Now it is time for them to respect our humanity, and provide a pathway to citizenship.
We are demanding that President Biden and the Democratic leaders in Congress renew their promise to advance a Build Back Better package that includes a pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants.
Will you donate to support our immigration work?
We are in a historic moment where we have the opportunity to create a pathway to citizenship for members of the LGBTQ community, for families who should be able to remain together and for all of the people that want to continue contributing to the country that we call home.
Millions of immigrants are forced to live in the shadows but we still work every day to ensure a better future for ourselves and we are a fundamental part of the economy of this country.
A people united will never be defeated, and our communities will continue fighting.
Thank you for supporting our fight.
In solidarity,
