The Census 2020 is here! Get counted today

The Census 2020 is finally here and you can start getting counted TODAY! Especially during these scary times, we are committed to making sure that we are all counted.

This week, the Census Bureau started mailing cards to the homes of everyone living in the United States with a designated link to fill out the Census. And here’s the exciting part, you don’t have to wait to receive the card in the mail, you can start the process as early as today online.

Our organizers and members have been reaching out to our communities in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Long Island, and Westchester to inform them of the importance of being fully counted in the 2020 Census. We have also been sending text and social media reminders to the community and allies with up to date information related to the Census.

A few weeks ago, we learned that in Jackson Heights, Queens, scammers claiming to be Census takers asked for information that the Census doesn’t generally ask. We immediately increased our outreach efforts to let the community know what the Census does and does not ask. For example, the Census does not ask for immigration or citizenship status, income, social security number, and donations.

To date, through our efforts, over 5,000 people have made a commitment to fill out the Census. We have also hosted over 100 presentations in our weekly member committee meetings, dozens more in our ESL classes across all our offices and school presentations across all five boroughs.

The process to fill out the Census form is easy and secure, I personally did mine in less than 5 minutes, but on average it takes approximately 10 minutes. It’s that easy! Can you join me and perhaps beat my record of filling out the Census in 5 minutes? Start now!

We are excited to begin counting our families and continuing to do outreach to ensure a full, fair count so that our communities get the resources and representation we need for schools, health care, roads and more.
