The stimulus will leave many behind

Over the past week, we have fought for a just federal stimulus package that puts the needs of working people before the demands of big corporations and billionaires.

The good news is that we helped beat back the worst of Trump and Senate Republican’s reckless proposals to give away vast amounts of money to corporations with zero accountability. And the stimulus package, if passed by the House of Representatives, will strengthen unemployment insurance in the short term and provide some help to small businesses to keep workers on payroll.

But the bill fails to protect and provide direct aid to our communities. We need your help – will you support our Emergency Response Fund today?

The stimulus bill puts big corporations ahead of working people and falls dangerously short of #WhatWeNeed to meet this moment:

It fails to include all residents of this country, regardless of immigration status, in urgently-needed cash payments and unemployment insurance.

It fails to strengthen and expand paid sick leave and paid family leave to cover all workers.

It fails to take meaningful action for renters at grave risk of displacement.

It fails to cancel crippling student debt.

And it fails to address the plight of those in prisons, jails, and detention centers who are currently trapped as a deadly plague descends on those facilities.

Here in New York, at the epicenter of this country’s crisis, our communities – low income, immigrant and undocumented community members, many of whom are on the frontlines as delivery workers, warehouse workers, and caregivers – are being excluded. They are some of the hardest hit, and it will take all of us to ensure they get through this.

Please help us provide direct financial aid and food assistance to those who will not receive stimulus support. Donate to our Emergency Response Fund now.

Even with the incredible generosity of donors who are supporting emergency funds like ours, we know that private support will never reach the scale necessary to support our community members left behind. We appreciate your solidarity as we continue to fight for federal, state and local protections and #AJustStimulus for all of us.

Sending love to you and yours as we all work together to get through this.

Take care,
