We have an ask to make, and we’re mad as hell that we have to.
Will you donate from your $600 stimulus checks so that we can continue to provide cash aid for our communities? They continue to be excluded from government relief and they are struggling to afford food and basic necessities.
On Monday in his State of the State, Governor Cuomo acknowledged that undocumented New Yorkers are facing a dire crisis without any state or federal relief. But, instead of providing a solution, he claimed that New York is prohibited by federal law from providing it. However, there is no restriction to state lawmakers for providing aid to immigrants. Our members will not let that excuse stand.
So as Governor Cuomo makes excuses, and as the federal government excludes undocumented immigrants from another round of stimulus checks–we’re asking for your help.
So many of you stepped up last spring and generously donated all or part of your stimulus checks. If you’re able to do so now, please contribute to our emergency relief fund by joining our call to #ShareMyCheck.
For months we have been hard at work demanding that our state #TaxTheRich to #FundExcludedWorkers. A tax on the wealthiest New Yorkers, many of whom have grown richer since March, would enable our state to provide for recently incarcerated and undocumented New Yorkers and all those who have been excluded from state or federal relief.a
In the absence of this common sense policy solution, billionaires keep getting richer as community organizations like ours, and grassroots donors like you, fill the gaps to get cash in the hands of those who need it.
We’re asking for your support again. Not because we think that any of this makes sense, but because families are hungry, the need is unfathomable, and our leaders have failed us thus far.
As you can tell we’re pretty fired up, and we’re sure you are too. We hope you’ll donate whatever you can, and continue to join us in our fight to #FundExcludedWorkers.
Thank you so much,
