Bushwick’s Own Pride Parade Out in Force

For the sixth year in a row, neighborhood organizers Make the Road NY’s all-local pride parade marched down a sunny Knickerbocker Avenue. This past Saturday afternoon, around 100 people — queer-identified immigrants and their supporters and family — turned out for the event, though there weren’t many spectators.

The event seems more important in recent years, after the beating death of Ecuadoran immigrant José Sucuzhañay, attacked because he was thought to be gay. Make the Road’s own Ana Maria Archila was recently profiled in a Times story on gay marriage.
