Este es un gran país, que amo y donde estoy creciendo. También quiero mucho a México donde nací. Pero aquí queremos tener el sueño americano, como muchas personas en este país y seguiremos trabajando para eso”.

“This country means opportunities. That is the reason why my parents came to Los Angeles from Mexico, Tijuana, where I used to live. I recently arrived to New York. This is a great country, that I love and where I’m growing. I love Mexico as well where I was born. But here we hope to achieve the American dream like many people in this country and we continue to work for that.”

“Estados Unidos es para mí un país que me abrió las puertas para crecer como persona, pero al mismo tiempo me niega la posibilidad de ver realizados los sueños de mi mamá. Poder decir, ‘Hey, yo soy ciudadano aquí también.’ Porque a pesar de que sienta que es aquí donde tengo que estar,el país no lo piensa así, porque no tengo los nueve números del Social Security”.

To me, the United State is a country that opened the doors for me to grow as a person, but at the same time denies me the opportunity to make the dreams of my mother come true. To be able to say, “Hey, I’m a U.S. citizen, too.” Because, even if I believe that this is where I’m supposed to be, the country doesn’t see it that way, because I don’t have those nine numbers of Social Security.

I came to the United States at a very young age and it’s all I’ve ever known. New York is all I know and it’s a lot for me. It’s my country.
