Ecuador Burial for Brooklyn Hate-Beating Victim

Additional reporting by Alex Ginseberg

The Brooklyn man beaten to death by bat-wielding thugs will be taken by his grief-stricken mother to his native Ecuador for burial, family members said.

José Sucuzhanay, 31, succumbed to injuries Friday night even as his mother, Julia Quintuna, was racing to Queens’ Elmhurst Hospital from a continent away.

"My mother arrived late last night," said Diego Sucuzhanay, the victim’s brother, breaking down as he spoke with reporters at the hospital. "We are making arrangements for his funeral in Ecuador."

A bevy of elected officials and community activists staged a **rally in Bushwick, where the victim and another brother, Romel, were walking home arm-in-arm on Dec. 7 when the attackers set upon them, hurling anti-Hispanic and anti-gay epithets.

Mayor Bloomberg pledged "to do everything . . . to find and to prosecute the despicable people who carried out this act."
