Hundreds rally for education at Governor’s Mansion

ALBANY, N.Y.—Hundreds [including members of Make the Road New York] gathered at the Governor’s Mansion on Saturday to protest against Governor Cuomo’s proposed cuts to education and the rollback of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity (CFE).

Robert Jackson, the original CFE plaintiff and the NYC Council Education Committee Chair, led the rally of over 200 parents and education advocates from all over the state. The rally focused on how the cuts would take back funding previously distributed to to schools state wide.

To reduce cuts to education, protestors also called on Governor Cuomo to change his mind on providing billions in tax relief to the wealthiest three percent of New Yorkers.

"We have parents here from all over the state," said Communications Director for AQE Nikki Jones. "Their concern that his budget cut will erase all of investments and at the same time the same the budget is giving 1.1 billion dollar tax break to the rich."
