Hundreds of immigrant tenants from Queens and Brooklyn will rally
outside a building for the repeal of vacancy decontrol and the
preservation of rent regulation. Tenants will be joined by State
Senator Hiram Monserrate, State Assemblyman Jose Peralta, and
Councilwomen Julissa Ferreras to call for the swift passage of S2237-A.
This rally is part of the series "Vacancy Decontrol Hurts Us All"
rallies that are happening where tenants will be joined by State
Senators to repeal vacancy decontrol.

Tenants will draw attention to the impact of deregulation on all of New York’s boroughs and low-income tenants.

Queens’s residents face rising rents, falling wages, and overcrowded
homes. Many rents have already crossed the decontrol threshold, leaving
new tenants without protection against rent hikes and baseless
evictions. Without repealing vacancy decontrol, we will see tens of
thousands of apartments in Queens removed from rent regulation in the
coming years. This will exacerbate the already intense housing crisis.
Repealing vacancy decontrol will protect affordable housing in Queens
for generations to come.
