Immigration advocate to visit Stapleton tomorrow

With pressure mounting on the Obama Administration to tackle the tricky question of immigration, and widespread confusion over a federal policy change promising to cease deportations for ‘low level’ immigration violations, a leading immigration advocate will come to Staten Island tomorrow to rally people around reform.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Chicago) will bring a delegation to the Family Restoration Ministries in Stapleton at 2 p.m. in an event sponsored by the Staten Island Immigrant’s Council, El Centro del Inmigrante, Make the Road New York, Staten Island Clergy Leadership, New York Immigration Coalition, Hispanic Federation, Arab American Association of NY and the Immigrant Action Fund.

At the rally and meeting, the new regulation will be discussed, with opportunities to get question answered and information on becoming involved in the fight for immigrant rights.

“Immigration issues are a barrier to full civic participation and economic security for thousands of immigrant families on Staten Island,” said the Rev. Terry Troia. “The immigrants who work so hard are the backbone of this economy and whose immigration status keeps their children hungry and their lives tenuous.”

For more information on the immigration event, call 917-913-4488.
