Immigration Reform Advocates To Project Message on NYC Buildings

Proponents of immigration reform will project their message on the side of buildings across New York City this week to urge the U.S. House of Representatives to pass an immigration bill like one recently passed in the Senate.

Projectors will display large billboard-type signs featuring photos of immigrants, statistics and messages, urging those walking by to call their representatives in Congress.

The projections can be seen starting Monday in Jackson Heights, where slides will be displayed on busy stretches of Roosevelt Avenue — 73rd Street, 92nd Street and 98th Street.

It’s a joint effort by Make the Road New York and 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union.

The project then moves to Manhattan Tuesday and to Staten Island Wednesday, and finishes up in Manhattan on the 4th of July to display the slides on a building on the West Side Highway before the annual fireworks show.

On Thursday, the Senate passed an immigration reform bill that would create new border-security measures while giving the more than 11 million people in the U.S. illegally a shot at citizenship.
