MRNY Member Augusto Fernandez with Governor Paterson
MRNY Member Augusto Fernandez speaks at the signing of the Wage Theft Prevention Act, with Assemblyman Heastie, MRNY Deputy Director Deborah Axt, Governor Paterson and State Senator Savino.

Dear Friends:

Thank you for your support for Make the Road New York (MRNY). As 2010 wraps up, we look back on a difficult year of economic hardship made hopeful with success from our work together – and we ask for your continued financial support.

With your help, this year, MRNY has continued our impressive record of winning meaningful reform for our communities.

Yesterday, in what may be our biggest victory ever, Governor Paterson signed into law the Wage Theft Prevention Act, comprehensive legislation that will protect the labor rights of hundreds of thousands of immigrant and low-wage workers throughout New York State. [NY Times]

It was with your support that MRNY attorneys, organizers, and members were able to research, draft and spearhead this successful campaign. Workers like Augusto Fernandez (pictured) will now have the law behind them when they stand up for their dignity and demand that their employers follow the law.
