Pride season is here!
Earlier this week, our fierce LGBTQ leader and organizer Bianey Garcia was honored at Carnival PrideProm 2017 by Councilmember Julissa Ferreras-Copeland and the NYC Council LGBTQ caucus! Bianey was recognized for her work in the community and her leadership of the Trans Immigrant Project (TrIP).
You’ll see a lot more of Bianey and the members of TrIP in the coming weeks, since Bianey is the grand marshal of the pride parade in Queens on Sunday, June 4! Queens has the largest and most diverse LGBTQ community in New York. You won’t want to miss it.
On Monday, June 12, we are commemorating a year of the Orlando’s massacre, where 49 LGBTQ people lost their lives at Pulse gay club.
Also, mark this on your calendar: The 6th Annal Trans-Latina March on Monday, July 10! This event was started by Make the Road members and has grown each year. The march celebrates the visibility and resilience of the translatina community. We’ll send a clear message that the trans community of Jackson Heights will not allow any violence in our streets. Let’s all come together and demand an end to hate violence! See you there!
