Protect immigrants’ health, too

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, as a high-risk New Yorker without health insurance, I knew that if I got the virus I would need to rely on homemade remedies to survive.

Despite living with diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure, as an undocumented mother I do not have access to affordable health care insurance due to my immigration status. When I contracted the virus, I was afraid to seek medical help because I was even more terrified of the cost. No one deserves to be in the position I faced because of lack of health insurance in New York.
