Students and Alums Assist Community with DACA Applications

CUNY Law’s Immigrant and Refugee Rights Clinic partnered with Make the Road to assist immigrant youth in applying for immigration relief under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). On Saturday, February 2, CUNY law students, alumni, and volunteers from Make the Road and the American Immigration Lawyers Association provided free application assistance to 70 community members seeking the two years relief from deportation and work authorization that the DACA program offers. The event was organized by Liz Newman, director of immigrant initiatives and clinical law professor.

CUNY Law’s Immigrant & Refugee Rights Clinic (IRRC) represents and supports non-citizens in a variety of settings and courts, covering immigration issues, law and security, and gender violence. IRRC was one of the first immigration law clinics in the nation and has a distinguished record of litigation and advocacy in support of communities and their organizations.
