The 2nd Annual Walk for Immigrant NY was a Great Success!

Top MRNY member fundraisers lead the Walk for Immigrant NY.

We did it! Thank you for helping to make the Second Annual Walk for Immigrant NY a triumphant success.

Through extensive grassroots fundraising efforts on the part of MRNY members, small businesses and organizations in our community — and allies like you — MRNY is proud to announce that we met our fundraising goal of $75,000—and we still have money coming in! The money raised goes to support the work of MRNY and other organizations to provide critical education and support services for immigrant New Yorkers, and to keep on winning campaigns for dignity and opportunity for all immigrants.

This year, five hundred people came together to celebrate immigrant power in New York. Check out photos from the event here.

At a festive send-off ceremony, our walkers were joined by elected officials at Northern Playground to distribute prizes to our top fundraisers. We were proud to have Congresswoman Velazquez, Comptroller John Liu, and City Council Members Melissa Mark-Viverito, Leroy Comrie and James Van Bramer to pump up the crowd and send the walkers on their way.

Together, we walked through Jackson Heights and Corona, two of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world, in a vivacious expression and celebration of immigrant pride.

If you missed your chance to donate before the walk, there is still time. Visit our website to sponsor a walker or make a general donation. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more details on next year’s walk.

We look forward to having you join us next year, as we continue to grow the Walk for Immigrant NY into a statewide affirmation of immigrant power!
