The People’s Convention 2016

More than 240 members and organizers from Make the Road New York are traveling to the historic People’s Convention, the largest gathering of community groups from across the country, hosted by our national sister organization, the Center for Popular Democracy this weekend in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our members have been saving up for months to be able to pay their way to Pittsburgh.

This convention comes at a crucial time. In the last 48 hours, two black men in two separate states lost their lives at the hands of police officers. And only a couple of weeks ago, the Supreme Court decided to keep DAPA and DACA in limbo, forcing millions of immigrant families to continue to live with the terrible fear of being torn apart.

The People’s Convention is an opportunity to strategize against the targeting of our communities. The agenda is packed with action and planning meetings that will strengthen our movement for respect and dignity.

Our communities have no choice but to fight back ¡Sí se puede!
