Immigration advocates are cheering following President Barack Obama’s announcement last night of executive orders regarding immigration.
The president announced sweeping changes that could provide relief from deportation and a way to seek temporary residency in the U.S. to millions of immigrants.
Advocates say Obama’s program could possibly affect 100,000 people living on Long Island.
Luis Valenzuela, of the Long Island Immigrant Alliance, says the actions are desperately needed.
“The situation with the immigration system being broken puts so many people into the shadows, families are torn apart,” he says. “The suffering is immense.”
