Video: Ex-Suffolk Police Sgt. Scott Greene arraigned on 60-count indictment in alleged hate crime thefts

Former Suffolk Police Sgt. Scott Greene was arraigned on a 60-count indictment for allegedly stealing money from Latino motorists in the Farmingville area.

Greene was initially arrested in March and charged with stealing cash from six motorists and an undercover cop during traffic stops.

Suffolk District Attorney Tom Spota told News 12 that 20 more Latino motorists have come forward with the same accusation. Spota says the charges include grand larceny as a hate crime.

As News 12 has reported, investigators say they have surveillance video from a sting showing the Shirley man stealing cash from a Hispanic driver.

Greene was released without having to post bail. He’s due back in court in August. His attorney had no comment.

Greene retired from the Suffolk Police Department in January.
