Some say the Republican plan for redistricting could silence black and Hispanic voters.

A fight is brewing over Nassau County redistricting maps.

The Republicans have proposed a voting map that would make major changes to the county’s legislative boundaries.

Some, like attorney Fred Brewington, say that the GOP map dilutes the voting rights of African-American and Hispanic voters.

The Democrats and Redistricting Coalition [including Make the Road New York] have also proposed possible maps that they say take changing population into account without moving too many voters into new districts.
