Westbury rally calls for action on immigration

Long Islanders in favor of federal action on immigration held a rally Tuesday night in Westbury.

A pile of shoes, representing the thousands of immigrant families separated by deportation, was the rally’s main symbol for getting their message across.

Immigrants at the rally say they have called the White House directly to ask President Obama to stop mass deportations. Inocencia Munoz, of Westbury, says she works hard to provide a better life for her children, but is afraid of being deported and getting separated from them.

People at the rally say they are calling on federal lawmakers to pass a bill that will include a path to citizenship, saying deportation is not the answer.
