Workers to hold press conference to celebrate the arrest of two exploitative supermarket executives for cheating their workers and falsifying business records

October 12th, 2008Workers to hold press conference to celebrate the arrest last week of two exploitative supermarket executives for cheating their workers and falsifying business records. 

The NY State Attorney General has also filed a civil lawsuit seeking close to $1 million dollars in illegally withheld wages and damages.  More lawsuits against other unlawful supermarket owners are expected in the coming weeks.

The arrests and civil lawsuits followed years of community and labor pressure on the Associated to clean up its act and obey federal and NYS labor laws

What:    Scores of workers and members of the organization Make the Road New York, representatives of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union and congregants from local churches will announce the events of last week and will circulate thousands of copies of a bilingual community newspaper focused on working conditions along the retail strip in Bushwick along Knickerbocker Avenue.
