🏘️Two BIG actions for housing justice this week!

  • Jose Lopez Co-Executive Director
  • Jennifer Hernandez Lead Organizer

We are taking to the streets to demand housing justice this week!

Governor Hochul and the State Legislature failed to pass Good Cause Eviction legislation in the budget this year. We will march to demand a vote be called to pass these much-needed tenant protections for New Yorkers.

Renters in unregulated apartments continue to face enormous rent burdens. Today, 5 million households across New York have no guaranteed right to a lease renewal and can face exorbitant rent increases from their landlords that go unchecked.

This is the case for many of our members, who have seen rent hikes between $500 and $800 a month recently, resulting in more evictions and more New York families cramming our already broken shelter system.

Take the streets with us to demand a livable New York for all at our actions:

  • March Against Displacement! Thursday, May 18th at 11:30 AM, starting at 301 Grove Street, Bushwick.

This march is an annual event in Bushwick where, along with partners, we bring attention to the statewide housing crisis our immigrant and working-class communities face. Our march will stop by the homes of two Make the Road NY members who are facing massive rent hikes and displacement. RSVP here for more details!

  • The Rent is Too Damn High Rally and March! Saturday, May 20th at 11 AM, starting at Cadman Plaza Park, Brooklyn.

Join thousands of tenants and homeless New Yorkers from across the state with the Housing Justice for All coalition as we demand that the state pass Good Cause Eviction.  RSVP here for more details!

Let’s march together to demand a New York where everyone can access affordable and equitable housing.

See you in the streets!
