Make the Road New York’s Here to Stay campaign is the largest and most important fundraising campaign in our history. Our goal is to raise $11 million from individuals and foundations. We are nearly there. 

We are now raising the final funds to complete construction, move in, and provide far greater services than ever before.

Visual Arts Fund

In every Make the Road space, art is a vibrant feature, contributing to members’ and clients’ sense of safety and home. Art reflects the spirit and beauty of our communities, and plays a pivotal role in our programs and organizing– promoting both healing and  social justice. 

We have commissioned community artists to create two large scale art projects in the new space: 

      – a mosaic on the great steps and

      – a 49-foot mural on the wall facing the steps. 

In addition, we are actively raising funds to infuse art throughout the building– including additional murals, photo exhibits, and a memorial to members we lost to Covid.

Green Features

Make the Road is raising funds for environmental building features as well as landscaping for our entrance and outdoor spaces, and living plants throughout the building.

Green building features will include energy efficient light fixtures, ENERGY STAR rated equipment, and water conserving fixtures. We are seeking LEED certification to ensure a sustainable, high performance building with a reduced negative impact on the environment.

We will also incorporate plants and trees inside and outside the center to provide green views from offices, classrooms and gathering spaces, to increase focus and reduce stress, while cleaning and cooling the air in the building.

Fostering a connection to nature has additional benefits that include decreasing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and contributing to overall mental and physical well-being.
