THE CAMPAIGN TO BUILD OUR HOME AND STAND STRONG FOR OUR FUTURE
A New Home of Strength and Dignity
Make the Road New York is building a permanent home in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world, in the heart of Queens, NY.
It will be a place of safety and strength that says: We are Here to Stay.
Our new home will stand as a statewide beacon of hope and power for current and future generations.
Construction is nearly complete on this 24,000-square-foot, landmark community center, and we will move in in early 2024!

SIGNIFICANCE OF OUR NEW COMMUNITY CENTER
Since our founding in 1997, we have operated in over-crowded, make-shift offices with rent going up every year.
The 24,000-square-foot, three-story building will more than double our space for frontline services. It includes numerous private offices for health and legal consultations, with space for accompanying family members.

As the center’s central gathering place with a capacity of 300, the auditorium and grand staircase will enable large and diverse groups to come together to advocate for justice in New York and beyond, allowing our impact to grow.

The classrooms and flexible community education areas were designed specifically to enrich and expand the educational and leadership programs we provide for adults and youth.
They also provide ample space for know-your-rights trainings, member gatherings, and youth-led activities as well as room for staff and members to devise proactive legal and campaign strategies.

The communal, commercial kitchen and shared dining area– designed in recognition of the roles food preparation and social gathering play in building community and trust– will provide after school and nightly meals for members, and space for nutritional education and cooking demonstrations as well as community events.
The entire building will also feature natural ventilation, the use of skylights to maximize natural lighting, and energy efficient fixtures and equipment.

The new center will also include dedicated childcare space to allow families full and confident access to services, space for creating art and signage for actions, a library, and 3,000 square feet of outdoor space.
