After tireless organizing by Make the Road New York and allies over the past five years, President Biden issued a 100-day moratorium on deportations, which starts tomorrow!
The moratorium was among the very first actions President Biden took from the White House. It is an enormous victory for our members and allies, who have fought for years to stop community members from being torn apart from their loved ones. Just last week, we released a video ad with Mijente calling for a moratorium on deportations and the investigation of the Department of Homeland Security.
As our member Diego Delesma said: “Over the past years, immigrants across the country have felt the pain inflicted by Trump’s deportation machine. After being placed in immigration detention, I constantly worried about the possibility of being deported. For months, I experienced inhumane conditions and I was terrified of not being able to see my children again. President Biden’s moratorium on deportations is a good step forward to bring relief to our communities and I will keep fighting until we can all be free.”
As we continue to work to dismantle an abusive immigration enforcement machine that has devastated our communities, this new policy is a critical step to putting ICE on ice.
