2006 was Make the Road by Walking member Luis Flores’ first time
working on our Voter Mobilization Project, but he quickly became a
star. After receiving training on how to effectively register new
voters and encourage voter participation in the upcoming elections,
Luis says, “I learned a lot about the specifics of how the U.S.
government works that I had not previously known.  The most inspiring
aspect of the work was to talk to so many community members motivated
to vote and to get involved with Make the Road by Walking.  Now that
we know the results of our work, it is very satisfying to know that we
were able greatly increase the number of people who vote in Bushwick.
I feel more confident that in the coming years we can achieve even
greater positive change in the community.”
