This Saturday, from 2-5 pm, Make the Road New York will host our Second Annual Community Assembly. The Assembly will take place in the auditorium of the Bushwick High School Campus at 400 Irving Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11237. Please come out and join us!
Close to one thousand low-income New Yorkers, mostly immigrants from Latin America will meet with more than 20 elected officials, including:
- Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Nydia Velazquez;
- NYC Comptroller William Thompson;
- NYC Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum;
- New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn;
- Congressman Anthony Weiner;
- Brooklyn Assemblyman Vito Lopez; and
- Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
Many other elected officials from City, State, and federal government will also be present to hear and respond to Make the Road New York’s public policy concerns.
Make the Road New York will call for educational opportunity for all New Yorkers, a just and humane immigration policy, healthy and affordable housing for all New Yorkers, policing that respects the dignity and rights of members of our communities, equal access to government-funded benefits and services for all New Yorkers, quality, affordable, comprehensive healthcare, respect and equality for LGBTQ people, dignity and economic opportunity for workers, and progressive taxation.
People of all ages will share their stories, in their languages, with elected officials from every level of government.
The Community Assembly will also be a cultural gathering. Stilt walkers, singers, drummers, rappers, poets, a marching band, and MRNY’s own theater troupe will warm up the crowd and keep it creative.
We hope to see you Saturday!
