MAKE THE ROAD NEW YORK’S CAMPAIGN OF HOPE AND RESISTANCE

Make the Road New York is in the midst of a bold, $10 million campaign of resistance and hope—Here to Stay—to secure the future of immigrant New York. To date, we have raised 70% of this funding.

This is a three-year, $10 million campaign, the largest in our history.

This is a critical moment.

If you would like to join us in this campaign, please contact Julie Miles at 718-418-7690 x1203 and Julie.Miles@maketheroadny.org.

GOALS

GOAL ONE:

CREATE THE IMMIGRANT DEFENSE FUND

Make the Road is building the power of our members to fight for safety, dignity and opportunity in New York and the U.S. As the extremist actions of the current administration threaten immigrants’ lives and our democracy itself, we are increasing support in every area, forging the power of those most affected to change the system from the ground up.

GOAL TWO:

BUILD A NEW, LANDMARK MAKE THE ROAD CENTER.

In the face of the most anti-immigrant administration in contemporary U.S. history, we are building a new home in immigrant Queens—a place of community, dignity, strength and safety. Our values will ring through every aspect of the space we create here, with all voices heard, making clear what transparency and democracy in action look like.

Construction is underway, with opening set for 2020.

MAKE THE ROAD BUILDS THE POWER OF IMMIGRANT AND WORKING CLASS COMMUNITIES TO ACHIEVE DIGNITY AND JUSTICE.

As New York’s largest immigrant-led community based organization, Make the Road is best situated to defend and organize immigrant communities in this critical moment.

Since our founding in 1997, we have led the way in securing justice and dignity for working and immigrant New Yorkers. Our survival services put $70 million annually back in the pockets of our participants, allowing families to begin to pull themselves out of poverty.

Over the past 20 years our organizing initiatives have secured hundreds of millions of new dollars in public investment in affordable housing, the provision of translation and interpretation services, public health programs, and the protection of civil rights. We have made a dramatic impact on the lives of millions more through broad-based policy victories, including statewide worker protections and expanded rights for immigrants in New York City and Long Island.

Our impact reaches far beyond New York. Make the Road is at the forefront of every major effort to win immigration reform nationally. Never before have so many lives depended so much on our work. And never before have we been so determined to succeed.

We are here to stay.

“We were built for this moment.”

– JAVIER VALDÉS, CO-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
