The June 15th deadline for the renewal of rent regulations and a handful of other housing related bills is fast approaching and advocates on both sides of the contentious issue are gearing up for what is sure to be a heated debate at the state capitol.
Jose Lopez, lead organizer of Make the Road NY, and Thomas Waters, a housing policy analyst for the Community Service Society, are two of the advocates pushing for stronger rent regulations and a scaling back of the 421-a tax abatement.
They discussed those issues and the future of Mitchell-Lama housing in an interview with City & State Executive Editor Michael Johnson.
