After reports of months-long projected wait times to receive a New York City municipal ID card, the program opened a new location in Corona this week.
Tuesday morning, officials tweeted that the new center, at the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at 34-33 Junction Blvd., will begin offering appointments in early April.
According to the program’s website, the hours will be Monday to Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mayor de Blasio first unveiled the ID program, which grants card holders free access to some city cultural institutions and is accepted by the NYPD, in January, hailing it as a “gateway to city services.”
The Corona branch joins three other official centers in the borough, including ones at Flushing Library, Jamaica Library and the office of Make the Road New York in Jackson Heights. There are also a few pop-up enrollment centers, such as one at LaGuardia Community College.
