NYC Group Commemorates Katrina Anniversary

NEW
YORK – A New York City coalition has scheduled a rally
and march to show solidarity for residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina on
the third anniversary of the disaster.

The "Call to Action, A
Day of Unity" event, set for Friday afternoon in Chinatown,
is one of many events across the country marking the anniversary.

The Right to the City NYC**, one of the organizers, says it also
wants to show that the issues affecting many New Orleans residents are not
unlike those many low-income New Yorkers face.

The group says New York’s
gentrification, high cost of living and lack of public housing are creating
hardships for working-class and immigrant families.

**Make the Road NY is a member of the
coalition.  MRNY Youth Members came out
to show their support and solidarity at the rally.
