Protesters chanting, “The workers united will never be defeated!” shut down sections of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges this morning.

Most were essential workers, including many undocumented immigrants, who have been excluded from receiving most government assistance for a year.

Maria Mejia held an ironing board that said, “Fondos ahora” (“Funds now”). She has struggled to support her children since the restaurant she worked at closed last year. “We are suffering from hunger and he doesn’t see us,” she said of the governor.
