Jackson Heights neighbors came together to organize a three day event to raise funds and collect donations for Queens victims of Hurricane Sandy. Councilmember Daniel Dromm visited a bake sale on the 78th Street Plaza, between 24th Avenue and Northern Boulevard, to lend his support. Over the weekend local organizers spearheaded by children were able to raise over $4,000 through various efforts conducted on the street. Additionally, more than four truckloads of supplies were delivered to the disaster areas and to local community organizations helping those affected by the terrible storm. Thanks go to the Jackson Heights Beautification Group, Jackson Heights Green Alliance, Make the Road NY, local residents, and many others who came together and demonstrated that our community can make a difference.

Members of the Young Governors’ group of the New Life Community Development Corporation mobilized to help with clean-up efforts in the Jackson Heights/Elmhurst communities in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. On November 2, Dromm joined more than a dozen young men and women on Diversity Plaza on 75th Street and 37th Road to clean up the debris left by the devastating storm. Dromm commended the group for their extraordinary commitment to community service.

While touring his district to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, Dromm took a moment to visit Newtown H.S., which served as a local shelter during the storm, to thank the staff who volunteered to help during the emergency.
