Victims of Harassment from 46 Wyckoff Ave. and 302 Stockholm Ave.
Victims of landlord harrassment and tenant groups will call on the City Council to pass legislation to create a "cause of action" that they can use to seek harassment protection from Housing Court.
At 46 Wyckoff Avenue, a new landlord recently bought the building and has employed a variety of tactics to push out longtime tenants such as offering money for tenants to leave the building within 30 days, threatening to call INS, threatening lawsuits, and withholding services. At 302 Stockholm, Andres Sosa, the landlord, has refused to accept rent from tenants, but then attempted to evict the tenant in Housing Court on the basis of non-payment of rent.
Around New York City, tenant groups are demonstrating in the month of October to put pressure on the city to create a private "cause of action" so tenants can protect themselves from harassment.
